Isobel Hatton Counselling

Welcome

‘I believe that every human, given the right conditions, can find what they need to become their true self. Firstly, they need ‘to discover it, organise it and put it to constructive use in the living of life’

(Perls et al.,1951)

There are times when we all feel unhappy, anxious, or overwhelmed. We don’t really know why so taking the time to explore what is going on within us can be an important first step to a greater understanding. Talking to someone who listens with care and helps you feel understood can be a powerful and transformative experience.

I am an experienced humanistic practitioner. I offer a confidential and compassionate space where you can explore your challenges at your own pace, supporting you to find balance and peace of mind. I place you and what matters most to you at the heart of our work together.

Through a warm, inclusive therapeutic relationship, you can feel accepted, supported, and free to be yourself, without fear of judgement. I support adults (18+) with a wide range of emotional concerns, including low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, grief, loss, early childhood trauma, and relationship difficulties. Sessions are available either face-to-face or online.

My Approach

My practice is integrative, drawing on the modalities of person-centred therapy, transactional analysis, and Gestalt. This enables me to respond flexibly to your specific needs and to tailor our work to what feels most supportive for you.

Together, we take time to explore what has brought you to therapy, gently uncovering what you need to support healing and growth. I am particularly interested in how early relational experiences might influence us in adulthood and how awareness of our patterns, behaviours and underlying narratives can support meaningful change. We all view the world through our own personal lens - you are the expert in your own life and my role is to enable you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and relationships safely and authentically.

Alongside my private practice, I work as a bereavement counsellor within the Psychological and Emotional Support team of an in-patient hospice unit. In this role, I support bereaved adults and individual family members as they navigate the emotional impact of end-of-life care.

This work has deeply shaped my practice as a therapist. It has strengthened my ability to be fully present, to support people through times of profound vulnerability and transition, to listen with care and without judgement. I bring the same compassion and respect into my private practice, offering a supportive space where clients feel understood and accepted for who they are.

My Practice

About me

Before training as a therapist, I spent many years working in the creative arts. This background has given me a strong understanding of life within competitive and uncertain environments, and how these pressures can affect confidence, self-worth, and emotional wellbeing. I often work with clients who feel anxious, insecure, or disconnected from parts of themselves they once knew.

I believe that each of us has an innate capacity for healing and growth. Sometimes, all that is needed is a safe space and the courage to take the first step.

Ethical Practice

Ethical and non-discriminatory practice is central to my work. I welcome individuals of all backgrounds, genders, sexualities, and identities.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their code of ethics. I undertake regular supervision and continuing professional development to ensure I offer a consistent, safe, and high-quality service.

Client Testimonial

my sessions with Isobel have given me the confidence to find my own voice and to start using it. She helped me understand the patterns in my behaviour and I really enjoyed getting to know myself more. Isobel was empathic, kind and patient, but she also managed to make our sessions fun. I am sad to finish but feel ready to go it alone “

How it works

I offer a free initial 15-minute telephone consultation, giving us the opportunity to briefly discuss your needs and for you to ask any questions.

If you choose to proceed, we will arrange an initial session. This allows me to gain a deeper understanding of your situation and gives you the space to decide whether you feel comfortable working with me.

If you decide to continue, we will meet weekly at a regular time for 50-minute sessions. I offer both short-term and long-term therapy, depending on your needs, which we would review together at regular intervals.

Fees

My fee is £65 per 50-minute session.

Location

My face-to-face practice is based in Maidenhead. I also offer online sessions and work with clients across the UK.
